How do Insulform blocks work?
Blocks can be easily cut down to accommodate complex designs, such as curved walls, any length walls, retaining walls, pool walls, basement walls and foundations. Insulform is a highly adaptable system that provides builders with many options.
What is EPS and ICF?
Insulform is an Expanded Polystrene (EPS) block system. Insulform, is a type of Insulated Concrete Formwork or ICF construction method. This method is being used increasingly around the world as it offers many benefits over traditional building methods.
The Blocks - Panels and bridges
Insulform blocks consist of two 50mm thick panels EPS connected by either metal or polypropylene bridges. The two panels have a number of unique features that make the Insulform blocks stand out from the competition, these are:
- The tongue and grooved edges top and bottom. This makes the blocks interlock when they stack quickly and easily, reducing waste of EPS and concrete.
- The inside of the blocks have dovetailed grooves along the whole face, providing an excellent bond with the concrete when filled.
The bridges that connect the two panels also have some unique features:
- Heavy duty polypropylene or galvanised steel (depending on model) set at 125mm centres
- 'Dog-leg' profile to increase block stability
How they are installed.
Insulform blocks are quickly and easily stacked to form any home layout. As the blocks are stacked in the desired layout, steel reinforcing is installed the blocks (which now serve as boxing), the blocks are braced and then filled with concrete. This first pour of concrete can be up to 3m high. Once this concrete is set, more blocks can be stacked up higher to form second stories and higher.
